TRAK kayaks

My name is Andrew, and I’m a TRAK-oholic.

In February 2008, I took my first drink. It was about eleven o’clock on a Thursday night, the chill creeping through the cracks of my little sailboat on the Pacific. The first sip brought elegant undertones and a bold punch of intelligent design (eh hem). I knew I had to have it from the moment I saw how the folding frame and skin came together. Mind you, this wasn’t a moment of being drunk on pure geekery, it was that the technology of this boat fit an immediate need in a simple yet delighfully awesome way. I folded the Sea Kayaker magazine, dropped it on the folding galley table, went to bed, and pulled the blankets over my head. I could no longer live without it.

My addiction didn’t hit its full stride until the summer of 2009 when the TRAK kayaks T-1600 showed up at my… well… let’s just call it a door. Since then I’ve had her out in a variety of types of water in a variety of conditions. These include lazy rivers, mountain lakes, some mild Deschutes River whitewater, the exposed Oregon Coast, and the eddy and current rich extravaganza of Deception Pass. I have to say, there’s no curing this addiction.

So… When I had the opportunity to spend three days with TRAK kayaks CEO, Nolin Veillard, I jumped at the chance. In those three days I filled in some gaps in my knowledge about the boat and learned a ton about the company and its philosophy. With some companies, looking behind the curtain diminishes some of the allure. That’s not the case with Nolin and TRAK. I can’t count how many times he used “Life unleashed!” (one of their taglines) in reference to my project and his vision for the company. By the end of our whilwind tour of Seattle, my support of TRAK was clear and Nolin’s support of my expedition was inspiring. With that light, we decided I should offer their product through this site.

When you decide to satisfy your TRAK craving, please support a fellow paddler and explorer by ordering through this site (Free Shipping to the U.S. and Canada*). A portion of the sale will contribute to financing my expedition. If you’d rather order directly from TRAK, let them know Andrew sent you. That said, all orders through sailtotrail.com are processed securely and shipped directly from TRAK’s facilities with the same speed (and price) as ordering directly from them.
